Record Audiobooks
RAAH is building a set of English audiobooks for children aged 6 to 9: age-appropriate stories that are easy to understand, engaging and meaningful.
About This Event
You will record an English audiobook for children aged 6 to 9: an age-appropriate story that is easy to understand, engaging and meaningful. Everything is prepared in advance, so the session is spent recording and uploading.
Impact: Children aged 6 to 9 get English stories they can listen to, narrated clearly and warmly.
Outcome:
- Each volunteer records one English story of about 15 minutes and uploads it during the session.
- New English audiobooks for children aged 6 to 9.

What volunteering here involves
Your role
You are the narrator of one story. You choose it before the session, then record it clearly and warmly and upload it during the session.
Time commitment: 60 minutes, live, with the recording done in the session. About 15 minutes beforehand to choose and read your story.
What you'll be doing
- 1Before the session, open the link you are sent, enter your name and choose your story from a list of around 30. If you have not chosen one, a story is allocated to you at the start.
- 2Read your story once beforehand, so the narration is smooth and natural.
- 3Join the welcome (5 minutes) and a three-minute orientation on how to open your story, record, and upload. There is no icebreaker.
- 4Record your story in English during the 45-minute recording window. Each story takes about 15 minutes; the rest is a deliberate buffer for re-recording and technical help.
- 5Play the recording back, re-record any section that is unclear, and upload it to the Google Drive folder you are given.
- 6Stay for attendance and feedback, and confirm your upload. If you could not finish, you receive the link to complete and upload afterwards.
How the session runs
- 0-5 minWelcome and introductionWhy the audiobooks are being made and what you will accomplish. No icebreaker.
- 5-8 minOrientationThree minutes at most: opening your story, recording, narration expectations, uploading, and who to ask for help.
- 8-53 minRecord and uploadThe core of the session: 45 minutes to record your story, review it and upload it.
- 53-58 minAttendance and feedbackAttendance, brief feedback, and confirmation that recordings are uploaded.
- 58-60 minThank you and closingA short thank-you and a group screenshot, if required.
What to expect
- The recording happens during the session, not afterwards: your time goes into recording, not waiting.
- The stories are for children aged 6 to 9, who follow a steady pace and an expressive voice.
- The organising team keeps the allocation list so that no story is recorded twice, and is available throughout for help.
- The close may include a group screenshot taken by the organising team.
- Join from a quiet place with your camera on, and log in five minutes early to test your audio.
What you'll need
- A quiet space: background noise carries, and a small room with soft furnishings works best
- A laptop or phone with a decent microphone and a stable connection
- Your story chosen and read through once before the session
- The recording and upload instructions read beforehand
What RAAH provides
- A list of around 30 age-appropriate English stories, with the PDF or full text of each
- Narration guidance and talking points
- Recording and upload instructions, and the Google Drive link for completed recordings
- The organising team on hand throughout the session
How it runs
- Before the session: select your story, receive the content, review the instructions
- During the session: welcome, 3-minute orientation, record, upload, attendance and feedback, close
- Core principle: your time goes into recording, not waiting
