About This Event

You guide beneficiaries through practical digital tasks across four topics: Email Basics, Virtual Meetings, Creating a Presentation, and Online Safety. The session is about learning by doing: you demonstrate, they try it themselves.

Impact: Beneficiaries complete practical digital tasks themselves and gain confidence with email, virtual meetings, presentations and online safety.

Outcome:

  • Volunteers guide beneficiaries through four hands-on modules, each ending in a mini challenge.
  • Each beneficiary completes the mini challenges they can within the session and shows one finished task.

What volunteering here involves

Your role

You are a guide. You demonstrate each task in simple language, then let the beneficiary do the steps themselves, adapting to how familiar they are with technology.

Time commitment: 60 minutes, live, 19:00 to 20:00 IST. Time beforehand to review the four modules.

What you'll be doing

  1. 1Before the session, review the four modules and prepare to demonstrate each in simple, beginner-friendly language.
  2. 2Join the welcome and orientation (19:00 to 19:03) and the overview of the four topics (19:03 to 19:08). There is no icebreaker.
  3. 3Email Basics: creating a professional email ID, composing and sending, subject, CC and BCC, attachments. Challenge: they send you an email with an attachment.
  4. 4Virtual Meetings: joining, creating and sharing a link, mute, camera, chat and screen sharing. Challenge: they create a meeting link and share it for you to join.
  5. 5Creating a Presentation: a title, text and an image, basic formatting, saving and sharing. Challenge: a two-slide deck on My School, My Favourite Hobby or My Dream.
  6. 6Passwords and Online Safety: strong passwords, OTP and PIN safety, suspicious links, what not to share. Challenge: a "Safe or Unsafe?" round and three or four "What would you do?" situations.
  7. 7In the last ten minutes, have beneficiaries show a completed task, then close.

How the session runs

  1. 19:00-19:03Welcome and orientationThe purpose of the session and how beneficiaries will learn by trying tasks with your guidance. No icebreaker.
  2. 19:03-19:08Introduction to the four topicsEmail Basics, Virtual Meetings, Creating a Presentation and Online Safety.
  3. 19:08-19:48Hands-on practice with volunteersThe core of the session: 40 minutes working directly with beneficiaries on each topic.
  4. 19:48-19:58Show and share, quick challengeBeneficiaries show a completed task, then a short "Safe or Unsafe?" round and "What would you do?" situations.
  5. 19:58-20:00Thank you and closing

What to expect

  • The session runs 19:00 to 20:00 IST, with 40 minutes of hands-on practice at its core.
  • Beneficiaries may complete different tasks depending on device access, connectivity and starting level. Prioritise hands-on practice and the most relevant tasks if time is short.
  • You guide rather than take over: demonstrate a task, then let them perform the steps.
  • Emphasise password and OTP safety, protecting personal information, and caution with links and files.
  • Join from a quiet place with your camera on, and log in five minutes early to test your audio.
  • Children or young people take part, so the safeguarding rules apply: keep your camera on and stay in the room the organising team sets up; do not take your own screenshots, photos or recordings; do not share or ask for phone numbers, social media handles or other personal contact details; and flag anything that worries you to the organising team, who are available throughout.

  • A laptop with camera, microphone and a stable connection
  • Comfort with email, a video-meeting tool, and PowerPoint or Google Slides
